Appleseed Shooting

This past Saturday Dad, Callie, and I went to an Appleseed shooting class with Mr. Durbin, Lillie, Mr. Orear, and Christopher. The organization was named Appleseed because the founders wanted to pass on the art of marksmanship and our early American heritage to the next generation; just like Jonny Appleseed planted apple trees, not for himself but for his children and grandchildren. It has nothing to do with starting a militia, overthrowing the government, or tactical fighting.

While there we learned how to use GI slings, the concept of NPOA (natural point of aim), three different positions, the right way to sight a rifle, who fired the "shot heard round the world" at Lexington Green, when the Revolutionary War really started, and lots more.

None of us passed the Rifleman test (although we all shot better by the end of the day) so we are planning on going again this year. Most of the events are pretty far away (around 2.5 hours) except the ones at Knob Creek and Carrolton.
If you are interested in going, click here for a list of things to bring and click here to see the schedule for KY. If you bring your own rifle, it must have a clip. If you don't have a rifle or the right one, they usually have around 10 extra ones at the event. Finally, if you want to buy your own rifle to use at the event, I would suggest getting a Ruger 10/22.
